Marist Advances in MAAC Championship Semifinals in Win Over Fairfield

ALBANY, N.Y.  – Marist’s Madeline Blais takes her team to the 2015 MAAC Championship game after a 21 point performance going seven of ten shooting including five rebounds and five of six from the charity stripe.  No. 2 Marist took down No. 3 Fairfield 67-50 Sunday afternoon in the 2015 MAAC Women's Basketball Championship semifinals.

Sydney Coffey added 20 points on five of eleven shooting and shot perfect from the free throw line. Tori Jarosz contributed 10 points and eight rebounds with three assists.  

In a tight game early on, Marist and Fairfield battled through a one possession game throughout the first five minutes, and the Stags took the lead after a Kristin Schatzlein three point shot at 14:56. At 11:04 Marist tied the game at 22-22, after a Sydney Coffey three point shot. After three ties and three lead changes in the first 10 minutes, the Red Foxes would take the lead for good. With 55 seconds left in the first half a Jarosz layup would put Marist up by 11, 37-26, and the double digit lead would remain for the duration of the contest. The second half saw Marist go on a run that gave the Red Foxes a 19 point advantage at the 12:06 mark after two of Blais’ free throws made the score 50-31. Fairfield would get within 11 points of Marist at the 3:47 mark on a free throw from Samantha Cooper. The Stags would not be able to recover from the deficit and fell to the Red Foxes 67-50.

Schatzlein would finish with 11 points and five rebounds. Cooper added 10 points and seven boards, while Kelsey Carey contributed eight points and seven rebounds.

Marist will face Quinnipiac in the 2015 MAAC Women’s Basketball Championship on Monday at 4:30 p.m.
