Quinnipiac Ends Siena's Run in MAAC Championship Semifinals

ALBANY, N.Y.  – Quinnipiac senior Jasmine Martin led her team to victory with 23 points, four rebounds and three assists.  No. 1 Quinnipiac defeated No. 5 Siena 64-47 Sunday morning in the 2015 MAAC Women's Basketball Championship semifinals.

Samantha Guastella added 20 points on six of 12 from beyond the arc, and .500 from the field while picking up six rebounds. Gillian Abshire contributed eight points, six boards and dished out seven assists.  

Quinnipiac began the game on a 5-0 run after a trey by Guastella. At the 15:36 mark, Siena was able to knot the game at 7-7 on layups by Meghan Donohue and Ida Krough.  Eight minutes into the game Quinnipiac took a 10 point lead for the 18-8 advantage on a Nikoline Ostergaard lay-up. Quinnipiac’s Martin would make two free throws at the 2:48 mark to give the Bobcats a double-digit lead that they would hold onto for the remainder of the contest. Quinnipiac would extend their lead moving toward halftime, with a score of 42-24 and would exit the half with an 18 point lead. After the half, Siena began their comeback attempt. The Saints got hot, getting back within 10 points at 16:47 with a 42-32 score on a Kollyns Scarbrough layup. The Bobcats would take their biggest lead of the game, a 19 point advantage, 53-34 with 8:43 remaining on a layup by Adily Martucci. Quinnipiac would end the game with a 64-47 score.

Krough would finish with 16 points on five of 13 shooting and grabbed seven rebounds. Donohue added 14 points on seven of 10 from the field to go along with eight boards.

Quinnipiac will face the winner of Marist and Fairfield in the 2015 MAAC Women’s Basketball Championship on Monday at 4:30 p.m.
