Offensive Player of the Week
Richie Hurley, Siena
Sr., Attack, 6-1, Setauket, N.Y./Ward Melville
Hurley scored a season-high six points in the Saints’ 14-6 win over Manhattan Saturday. The MAAC Preseason Player of the Year netted a hat trick and added three assists in taking over sole possession of third place in program history in assists (85) and seventh in scoring (166). The reigning MAAC Offensive Player of the Year, Hurley factored in the scoring of each of Siena’s first five goals and his final two points came during a decisive six-goal run midway through the game that helped put things away.
Defensive Player of the Week
Jason Weber, Detroit
So., Goalie, 5-11, Whitby, Ontario/Christ School
Weber stood tall in the net making eight saves in Detroit’s unbelievable 9-8 comeback victory over Monmouth. Weber saw the Hawks fire off 43 shots, including 19 in the first period, but he was at his best in the fourth making three saves and shutting out Monmouth as Detroit scored five goals for the win. He had three saves in the final period, including one with the man down, to help preserve the victory.
Rookie of the Week
Mark Anstead, Detroit
Fr., Attack, 5-11, Potomac, Md./Gonzaga
Anstead recorded two goals and one assist, but no goal was bigger than his second of the game as it proved to be the game winner in a 9-8 win. With 2:28 left, Anstead was able to charge the net and beat the keeper to put the Titans in front. He started the scoring on the day with the game’s first goal and his assist was on Sean Birney’s marker in the fourth during the red, white and blue’s 5-0 run.
