Player of the Week

Kristen Turner, Iona

So., Infielder, 5-7, Turnersville, N.J./Washington Township

Sophomore Kristen Turner posted a .600 batting average (12-20) over six games for Iona, slugging 1.600 along with a .667 on-base percentage.  Turner connected on six home runs during the stretch, recorded eight extra base hits in total, drove in 11 runs and scored seven times.  Turner went 3-5 in a home non-conference doubleheader against Wagner, including a 2-2 effort in game two with a home run and double.  In league play, Turner went 4-7 in a doubleheader at Monmouth, with three runs batted in and another home run.  After a 2-4 effort in the opener, Turner went 2-3 in game two with a pair of RBI.  Turner tallied four home runs in a doubleheader against Saint Peter's, including three long balls in an 18-0 game one win.  It marked the first three home run game for a Gael since 2006, and just the second in program history.  Turner went 4-5 in the contest overall, with four runs scored and five runs batted in.  Turner added her fourth of the day in the second game, and drove in two more runs in the contest.

Pitcher of the Week

Amy Bright, Manhattan

Sr., Pitcher, 5-7, Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius

Bright tossed back-to-back shutouts against Rider and Monmouth this weekend.  She allowed just three hits, struck out seven and didn’t issue a walk in the 2-0 victory over Rider on Saturday, then earned the save in game two, a 3-2 Manhattan win.  On Sunday, Bright pitched a four-hitter against Monmouth, recording four strikeouts and two walks in a 5-0 triumph.  That extended her streak (which is still active) to 21 consecutive scoreless innings.  For the week, which also included a 5-1 non-conference win over Columbia, Bright went 3-0 with two shutouts and a save.  She posted a 0.30 ERA and struck out 12 in 23 innings over five appearances.

Rookie of the Week

Briana Matazinsky, Manhattan

Fr., Pitcher/Infielder, 5-8, Valley Falls, N.Y./Tamarac

Matazinsky went 2-1 in three pitching appearances and put together a .417 average at the plate last week.  In the circle, she suffered a tough-luck 3-1 loss to Columbia on Tuesday before notching a 3-2 win over Rider on Saturday.  She had four strikeouts and dind’t issue a walk in the game.  Matazinksy then tossed her second career shutout on Sunday, scattering five hits and striking out two in a 5-0 win over Monmouth.  She put together a 1.11 ERA and struck out 10 over 19 innings in her three pitching appearances.  At the plate, she belted a two-run homer in the first game against Monmouth, then helped her own cause with a pair of hits and two RBIs in game two.
