Offensive Player of the Week
Tori Quinn, Canisius
Sr., Attack, 5-3, Orangeville, Ontario/Orangeville
The senior attacker Tori Quinn was the Griffs best offensive weapon this week, leading the team to a Canisius record setting 10th straight win and the number one seed in the MAAC Championship for just the second time in program history. Quinn started the week off strong by leading the Griffs to a 16-8 victory over the Niagara Purple Eagles. In the game against Niagara, Quinn had two goals, seven assists (one shy of tying the Griffs school record), one draw control and was 1-1 on free position shots. Against the Monmouth Hawks on Saturday, Quinn had three goals, an assists, three ground balls, three draw controls and four caused turnovers and was 2-3 on free position shots. On the week, the Orangville, Ontario native totaled five goals, eight assists, four draw controls, three ground balls and four caused turnovers.
Defensive Player of the Week
Kayla Scully, Canisius
Sr., Goalkeeper, 5-4, Rodman, N.Y./South Jefferson
Senior goalkeeper Kayla Scully was a brick wall in net this week for the Griffs. The Rodman, N.Y. native led the team to two more conference victories, including a regular season conference clinching victory over the Monmouth Hawks on Saturday. The senior played in all but 3:12 minutes in goal in the two games against the MAAC rivals and allowed 16 goals. Scully made 17 saves in goal for the Griffs and was a key piece to securing the number one seed overall. Besides making the saves in goal for the Blue and Gold, Scully had two ground balls and a caused turnover against Niagara, making her stat line for the week, 17 saves, two ground balls, one caused turnover and most importantly two MAAC conference victories.
Rookie of the Week
Erica Evans, Canisius
Fr., Midfield, 5-8, Peterborough, Ontario/St Peter’s Secondary
Freshman Erica Evans was once again instrumental in the Golden Griffins two conference victories this week. The midfielder has been on fire this season and has been having one of the strongest freshman seasons in Canisius college history. After this week’s two games against Niagara and Monmouth, Evans currently is tied for the team lead with 35 goals and has 42 points total this season, third best on the Griffs. Against Battle of the Bridge rival Niagara on Wednesday, Evans had four points, scoring two goals and recording two assists and she also had one caused turnover in the game. Against Monmouth, in a big victory for Canisius, Evans once again found the back of the goal twice and recorded an assist, a caused turnover and four draw controls. On the week, Evans had four goals, three assists, two caused turnovers and four draw controls, leading the Griffs to the number one seed in the MAAC Championship playoffs.
