2015 MAAC Water Polo Championship Set to Begin on Saturday, April 25

EDISON, N.J. – The 2015 MAAC Water Polo Championship is set to begin on Saturday, April 25 in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., at Marist College's McCann Natatorium.
The first semifinal contest begins at 12:00 p.m. and will feature second seed Wagner College (23-8, 10-2) facing number three seed Iona College (21-14, 7-5). Wagner swept the regular season series against Iona. The Seahawks earned a, 14-8, victory at a neutral site in Lexington, Virginia on the campus of VMI on March 29. On April 12, Wagner picked up a, 19-5, home victory against Iona to secure the series sweep. Wagner enters the championship as the defending champions, while Iona had won the previous three titles from 2011 to 2013.
The second semifinal matchup of the day features the championship host and number one seed Marist College (19-13, 11-1) taking on the four seed Villanova University (19-14, 7-5) at 2:00 p.m. Regular season champion Marist, won both meetings with Villanova during the 2015 campaign. The Red Foxes topped the Wildcats, 10-3, on March 22 in Poughkeepsie, New York. Then on March 29 in Lexington, Virginia, Marist edged Villanova, 9-8. 2014 championship runner up, Marist enters the championship having won seven straight league contest and Villanova comes into the final four riding three straight wins.
The championship consolation game will take place on Sunday, April 26 at 12:00 p.m. and will be followed by the title contest at 2:00 p.m.
The winner of the 2015 MAAC Women's Water Polo Championship gets an automatic berth to the NCAA Division I Women's Water Polo Championship play in game, which will be held May 2 on the campuses of the higher-seeded teams.
