Marist & Monmouth Advance to the 2015 Men's Tennis Championship Finals

WEST WINDSOR, N.J. – Marist College and Monmouth University will meet in the finals of the MAAC Men’s Tennis Championship after winning their semifinal matches against Quinnipiac University and Niagara University, respectively.
The second-seeded Red Foxes defeated third-seeded Quinnipiac, 4-0. Marist took the doubles point in three sets after No. 2 and No. 3 doubles split. The All-MAAC Second Team No. 2 duo of Justin Chanthalangsy and Matteo Guidice won 8-4, while the Bobcats All-MAAC Second Team No. 3 doubles duo of Eric Ambrosio and Willem van Biezen took the second match 8-5. The deciding match was won by the Bobcats No. 1 doubles Jonas Kuwert and Luke Roser, 8-3 to earn the doubles point. In No. 2 singles, MAAC Rookie of the Year Rudy Kurz topped Jonas Kuwert in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1. In No. 5 singles, All-MAAC First Team member Matteo Guidici beat Roser in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2. The match was decided in No. 6 singles as All-MAAC Second Team member Jan Dernic defeated Kyle Alper 6-2, 6-4 to clinch the match for Marist.
Top-seeded Monmouth defeated fourth seeded Niagara, 4-0, to advance to the championship final. The Hawks claimed the doubles point with the help of Ale Gomez Estrada and Ramy Bekhiet at No. 2 doubles and Przemyslaw Filipek and Christian Viera at No. 3 doubles. The All-MAAC First Team members of Estrada and Behkiet defeated Niagara’s David Raymond and Francis Nadeau, 8-3 and the doubles point was decided when Filipek and Viera took No. 3 doubles from Niagara 8-6. The Hawks’ Luke Adamus won his singles match in straight sets 6-0, 6-0 in No. 5 singles and Monmouth’s Victor Pugliese defeated Michael Elortegui in straight sets 6-0, 6-3 in No. 1 singles. Filipek defeated Inaki Belloso in No. 2 singles 6-4, 6-3 to clinch the match for Monmouth.
The men's championship match will begin at approximately 2 p.m. tomorrow.
