Quinnipiac Claims 2015 Women's Tennis Championship

WEST WINDSOR, N.J. – The Quinnipiac Bobcats won its second consecutive MAAC title by defeating the Niagara Purple Eagles, 4-0, in the 2015 MAAC Women's Tennis Championship at Mercer County Park in West Windsor, N.J.
Quinnipiac earned the doubles point with victories in the third and first positions. Sophia Dzulynsky and Sitilia Rencheli earned an 8-1 victory over Iva Celan and Ashley Ta in No. 3 doubles to give the Bobcats the lead. Jacqueline Raynor and Michelle Dassa followed up with an 8-5 victory defeating Maria Ortiz and Paulina Velasquez in No. 1 doubles to give the Bobcats momentum into the singles matches.
All-MAAC First Team member Raynor took the next match point for Quinnipiac at No. 2 singles defeating Ashley Ta 6-0, 6-0. In No. 1 singles, Dzulynsky defeated Iva Celan in straight sets 6-3, 6-1.
In No. 4 singles, the Bobcat’s Sydney Young took the final point to give Quinnipiac the 2015 championship title. Young took the first set 6-1 and put up a 5-0 lead in the second set. Niagara’s Stella Peisakhova fought back to bring the match to 5-4 before Young took the set at 6-4 to complete the 2015 MAAC Women’s Tennis Championship.
Quinnipiac’s Raynor was named the 2015 MAAC Women's Tennis Championship Most Outstanding Performer, her second Most Outstanding Performer award in as many years. She went 2-0 at No. 1 doubles this weekend and won straight sets in her championship singles match without giving up a point.
Quinnipiac will receive the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Championship to be held at Hurd Tennis Center in Waco, Texas. The NCAA Selection Show is Tuesday, Apr. 28 at 5:00 p.m.
