Player of the Week

Elena Bowman, Manhattan

Jr., Catcher, 5-8, San Mateo, Calif./Aragon

Bowman hit .733 with three doubles, two home runs and six RBIs in five games last week.  After going 2-for-4 in a non-conference victory at Sacred Heart on Wednesday, she went a combined 5-for-7 with four RBIs and four runs scored in the doubleheader sweep at Niagara on Saturday.  Bowman then reached base in all eight of her plate appearances at Canisius on Sunday.  She was 3-for-3 with two doubles and a home run in first game.  With that homer, she’s now one shy of tying the MAAC all-time record.  In game two against the Griffs, Bowman singled in her only official at-bat while also walking once and being hit by a pitch twice.

In her lone start of the week, redshirt sophomore Christine Costello picked up her fifth win of league play with a seven inning shutout of Quinnipiac at home.  The right hander went the distance, allowing just two hits and one walk while striking out seven batters to lead the Gaels to a 3-0 victory.
