MAAC Announces 2015 Men's Lacrosse Awards

Poughkeepsie, N.Y. – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC ) announced its 2015 Men’s Lacrosse awards today. Headling the award winners are Marist College’s Joseph Radin , who was selected as the 2015 MAAC Men’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Year, Monmouth University’s Garrett Conaway, who earned Defensive Player of the Year, and University of Detroit Mercy’s Mark Anstead, who was named Rookie of the Year. All awards were voted on by the league’s head coaches.

Additionally, Marist’s Dominic Montemurro was voted Face-Off Specialist of the Year, and Marist’s Patrick Eaker earned Long Stick Midfielder of the Year. Keegan Wilkinson, head coach of the Red Foxes, was chosen as the Lids Team Sports MAAC Coach of the Year.

Radin, a junior from Long Beach, New York, leads the MAAC in goals per game (3.00), points per game (3.93), shots per game (7.86), and man-up goals per game (0.64), finishing the regular season with 42 goals and 55 points. His goals per game mark is currently 10th best in the nation and 15th all-time in the MAAC. Radin was named the MAAC Offensive Player of the Week twice in 2015.

Conaway, a senior from Marriottsville, Maryland, leads the league and the nation in save percentage (.626), while his goals against average (7.20) ranks first in the MAAC and third in the nation. His save percentage currently ranks 6th all-time in the MAAC, and his saves per game (11.46) ranked second in the league this season. Conaway was named the MAAC Defensive Player of the Week twice this season.

Montemurro, a junior from Kings Park, New York, was named Face-Off Specialist of the Year after winning .545 (169-141) of his face-offs on the season. He sits first in the MAAC and ranks 22nd nationally in face-off percentage. Montemurro also ranks third in the league in groundballs per game (4.64).

Eaker, a senior from Redding, Connecticut, earned the league’s Long Stick Midfielder of the Year award for the third year in a row. He picked up a total of 40 ground balls this season and ranks ninth in the league in ground balls per game (2.86). Eaker also ranked seventh in the league in caused turnovers (13), and eighth in caused turnovers per game (0.93).

Anstead, a freshman from Potomac, Md., took this seasons Rookie of the Year award, the second consecutive year a Titan has received the award. The first year attack ranked ninth in the league in goals per game (1.54), fourth in the league in assists per game (1.31) ranking 2nd nationally among freshman and sits sixth in points per game (2.86). Anstead has two game winning goals on the season and was named MAAC Rookie of the Week five times this year and MAAC Player of the Week once.

Wilkinson, currently in his fourth season as the head of the Marist program, led the Red Foxes to a perfect 6-0 conference record and an overall mark of 11-3. Marist won the regular season champions title and earned the No. 1 seed in the championship. The Red Foxes have made the postseason tournament in each of Wilkinson’s first four years at the helm. Marist currently sits eighth in the country in winning percentage (.786), and leads the league in goals, assists, points, shot percentage, man-up scoring and face-off percentage.

First Team All-MAAC selections include Radin, Detroit’s Shayne Adams, and Siena’s Richie Hurley at attack. Canisius’ Tim Edwards, Marist’s Mike Begley and Drew Nesmith are the midfielders. The defense features Detroit’s Paul Bitetti, Marist’s Eaker and Quinnipiac’s Carmen French. Monmouth’s Conaway is the goalkeeper.
