Player of the Week

Jenn Vazquez, Manhattan

So., Infielder, 5-10, Fairfield, Conn./St. Joseph’s

Vazquez hit .700 with two home runs and seven RBIs over Manhattan’s first four conference games. After reaching base all three times in the first game of the doubleheader with Siena on Monday, she went 1-for-2 in the second game, roping an RBI double and knocking in an insurance tally with a sacrifice fly in the Jaspers’ 3-1 victory. Then against Saint Peter’s on Saturday, Vazquez went a combined 4-for-6 with three runs scored and five RBIs. She crushed two of the Jaspers’ seven home runs in an 18-1 rout in the first game, driving in four in the contest. Vazquez then drove in the tying run with a bases loaded walk and later picked up a single in game two, a 2-1 win.

Pitcher of the Week

Amanda Gatt, Siena

So., Pitcher, 5-8, Voorheesville, N.Y./Temple/Clayton A. Bouton

Gatt put together arguably the best week of her Siena career this past week.  In four appearances with three starts, Gatt pitched 20.2 innings allowing only four earned runs and striking out 22 batters with a 1.35 ERA, compiling a 2-1 record for the week. Gatt pitched complete games against Hartford and Marist allowing only one earned run over those two games. Her best performance of the week came Saturday against Marist where she pitched a complete game 2-hitter, shutting out the Red Foxes with 11 strikeouts, as the Saints won the game 3-0.

Rookie of the Week

Briana Matazinsky, Manhattan

Fr., Pitcher/Infielder, 5-8, Valley Falls, N.Y./Tamarac

Matazinsky made two starts in the circle last week and earned the victory in each. Against Siena on Monday, she went 5.2 innings, allowing just one run on four hits while striking out three and walking two in the Jaspers’ 3-1 win. Matazinsky then earned a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Saint Peter’s on Saturday. She yielded just five hits and at one point retired 15 of 16 Peacocks. Matazinsky finished with five strikeouts and one walk in the game. For the week, she tossed 12.2 innings, surrendering only two runs and nine hits with eight strikeouts.  Matazinsky posted a 1.11 ERA while going 2-0 over the two games.
