Marist Advances to 2015 Men's Lacrosse Championship after Semifinal Win

Poughkeepsie, N.Y. – Top seeded Marist College defeated the number four seeded Monmouth Hawks, 11-6, in the second semifinal game of the 2015 Men's Lacrosse Championship at Tenney Stadium at Leonidoff Field on the campus of Marist College.
Marist got off to a quick start to the first quarter scoring just a minute into the game on a Joseph Radin goal to give the Red Foxes a 1-0 lead. Marist continued their offensive attack as senior Mike Begley put one in net at the 11:31 mark. Monmouth got on the board three minutes later as senior John Castellano scored to bring the Hawks within one. With just over five minutes remaining the Red Foxes would score back to back goals by freshman Gannon Morrison and again by Radin. The Hawks would keep Marist off the board for the rest of the quarter heading into the second stanza down 4-1. Monmouth would keep Marist in check through the first five minutes of the period before Radin would record his third goal of the night at 10:18. Less than a minute later Morrison would find the back of the net again for the Red Foxes extending the lead 6-1 for his second score of the night. At the 5:20 mark, Castellano would get his second marker of the night to bring the Hawks within four. Two minutes later J.D. Recor would score for Marist to give the top seed a 7-2 advantage heading into halftime. Before the half ended Monmouth would score, but the goal would be called back on a whistle to keep the score 7-2 at the midway point.
Monmouth’s offense would start to come alive in the third quarter scoring three goals. The Red Foxes would get on the board first in the second half with Recor’s second and third goals of the night, giving Marist a 9-2 lead. Monmouth would come back scoring here consecutive goals by Tyler Keen, Ryan Schwartz and Chris Daly to bring the Hawks within three, 9-5 before the end of the quarter. The Hawks would score once more before the game was over two minutes into the period on another Castellano goal. Marist would score two more insurance goals, one by Radin and the final by Colin Joka before the final horn to move on to the 2015 MAAC Men’s Lacrosse Championship Match.
MAAC Offensive Player of the Year, Radin finished with five points on four goals and an assist for Marist, while All-MAAC Second Team selection Recor also finished with five points on three goals and two assists. MAAC All-Rookie Team selection Morrison finished with two goals of his own for the Red Foxes, with Begley and each supplying a goal as well. For the Hawks Castellano posted three goals and each of Daly, Keen and Schwartz added a score. The Red Foxes Dave Scarcello would make 11 saves with Monmouth’s Garrett Conaway having 10 of his own.
Marist will play the second seeded Quinnipiac University in the 2015 MAAC Men’s Lacrosse Championship for the league crown.
The championship game will begin on Saturday, May 2 at 2pm at Marist College's Tenney Stadium at Leonidoff Field and can be seen live on Time Warner Cable and ESPN3.
