MAAC Announces 2015 All-MAAC Rowing Teams

EDISON N.J. - The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference announced the 2015 All-MAAC Rowing Awards, voted on by the league’s head coaches. Winners were chosen for the varsity fours, varsity eights and second varsity eights for both the men’s and women’s programs.
On the women’s side, the varsity four boat from Canisius College was the top choice amongst the head coaches. After capturing the varsity four crown at the MAAC Championships, the Golden Griffins earned the nod on the All-MAAC team. The boat includes coxswain Kaitlyn Taylor and rowers Alexandra Glick, Megan Walsh, Liz DelBarba, and Melissa Frank.
Jacksonville University claimed the top honors for the women’s varsity eight. After taking home first place in the varsity eight title at the MAAC Championships, the Dolphins' boat earned the All-MAAC award. The boat includes coxswain Lauren Whetzel along with rowers Danielle Keeler, Stefanie Keeler, Julianna Welch, Jessica Mathews, Veronika Stasaityte, Bridget Keough, Victoria Hernandez, and Stacey Price.
The final league honors on the women's side went to Jacksonville's second varsity eight. The Dolphins' won the 2nd varsity eight title at the MAAC Championships. The boat is represented by coxswain Claire McLenna as well as rowers Micaela Hill, Victoria Tkacz, Kelly Cleveland, Ashley Hirt, Jennifer Pavlik, Joan Spinelli, Victoria West, and Rylie Ayles.
On the men’s side, Marist College won the top award for the men’s varsity four, which included coxswain Andrew Gaulin and rowers Sacha Castellani, Liam Kite, Ryan Miller, and Connor Devlin. The Red Foxes took home the varsity four title at the MAAC Championships.
The varsity eight boat from Jacksonville took home All-MAAC honors for their men’s varsity eight boat. The Dolphins' boat included coxswain Stephen McDonald and rowers Zach Kelso, Scott Waitley, Scott Marx, Nathan Esterline, Luke Myhree, Luciano Mercenari, Victor Gargaun, and Shane Barnett. The boat won the varsity eight race at the MAAC Championships.
The men’s second varsity eight boat from Jacksonville earned conference honors. The boat consists of coxswain Alex Tate and rowers Will Vanneck, Andrew Bechtold, Erik Fournier, Jake Capistran, Chase Rowe, Zach McKenna, Chris Nichols, and Travis Pulliam.
Jim Mitchell from Jacksonville was named the 2015 MAAC Women’s Coach of the Year, while Tom Sanford from Marist was chosen as the 2015 MAAC Men's Coach of the Year.
