Monmouth Wins 2015 MAAC Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championship

West Long Branch, N.J.- The Monmouth University Women's Track and Field team captured its second-straight title at the 2015 MAAC Outdoor Track & Field Championship at Monmouth University on Sunday, May 3 in West Long Branch, New Jersey.
The Hawks won the meet with a score of 260.2 points. Quinnipiac University finished second with 127 points, followed closely by Rider who was third with 122 points. Manhattan placed in fourth with 103.66 points. Saint Peter’s finished fifth with 66.6, and Iona placed sixth with 53 points. They were followed by Marist with 41.6 points, Niagara in eighth place with 28 points, and Canisius in ninth place with 15 points.
Taylor Johnson of Monmouth University was named the Most Outstanding Performer for Field Events. Johnson broke the MAAC Championship record for women’s discus throw with 51.57m, and also came in second in both the women’s hammer throw (53.18m) and the women’s shot put (13.22m).
Emily Ritter of Rider University earned Most Outstanding Performer for Track Events. Ritter won the 3,000 meter steeplechase a time of 10:33.42, and came in second in both the 5,000m (16:55.37) and the 1,500m (4:33.50).
Joe Compagni of Monmouth University was named the 2015 Women’s Coach of the Year.
Michelle Gaye of Marist College set a new MAAC Championship record on day two of the 2015 MAAC Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 16:36.49.
