EDISON, NJ – 40 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) teams were recognized by the NCAA for their multiyear Academic Progress Rate (APR) and were named recipients of the NCAA Public Recognition Award. Fairfield University and Siena College led all MAAC schools with six teams earning the honor.

Each year, the NCAA honors select Division I sports teams by publicly recognizing their latest multiyear NCAA Division I APR. This announcement is part of the overall Division I academic reform effort and is intended to highlight teams that demonstrate a commitment to academic progress and retention of student-athletes by achieving the top APRs within their respective sports. Specifically, these teams posted multiyear APRs in the top 10 percent of all squads in each sport.

“The MAAC brand is about excellence in athletics and academics, and the success reflected in these NCAA Public Recognition Awards is a credit to the student-athletes, coaches and athletic administrators that provide the needed environment to achieve,” notes MAAC Commissioner Rich Ensor. “Congratulations to all the student-athletes and the schools that are providing them the tools for success in college and in life.”

The sport of Men’s Golf was the most represented for the MAAC, with seven teams earning recognition. The women’s basketball programs of Iona and Niagara earned the honor as well.
