MAAC Sports
Wilson Offensive Player of the Week
Brenna Brown, Fairfield
Jr., F, 5-8, North Salem, NY/North Salem
Brenna Brown tied a career-high with four points with two assists and a goal as she led the Stags to their first-ever win against Rhode Island. Brown was at the forefront for all three Fairfield goals, assisting on the first two and then scoring her eighth career goal, with all action coming in the first half. To score a goal herself, Brown sprinted to the net and jumped to head the ball, crashing into a defender, but was still able to get a piece of it for a score. The two assists, set a career best (as she only had one assist during her first two years). Brown helped the Stags defeat a Rhode Island squad that came into the match fresh off a win against SEC foe Alabama, and were also ranked sixth in the NSCAA Mid-Atlantic Poll.
Wilson Defensive Player of the Week
Bethany-May Howard, Rider
Jr., GK, 5-7, Glastonbury, England/Bridgwater College
Howard lead Rider to a 2-0 week, with two shutout wins over Delaware State and NJIT. The junior goalkeeper registered 12 saves in the two contest. Howard made three saves in a 3-0 win over Delaware State on Sept. 09 and added another nine saves in a 1-0 win at NJIT on Sept. 13. For the season, Howard has made a conference-high 48 saves while allowing just nine goals. The two shutout wins were Howard’s seventh and eighth shutouts in the last two years after playing half of every game as a freshman when she was on the all-rookie team.
Wilson Rookie of the Week
Jess Gargan, Quinnipiac
Fr., F, 5-9, Dublin, Ireland/St. Finains Community College (Ireland)
Quinnipiac’s freshman forward Jess Gargan came through in a big way on Sunday as her first career goal at the 5:38 mark of the first half also went down as her first career game-winning goal. After tallying two assists through the first four games of the season, Gargan’s first career tally was a big one as she helped lift QU to a 3-1 win over Maine.
