MAAC Announces 2015-16 Women's Basketball Schedule

EDISON, NJ – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) has released the women’s basketball conference schedule for the 2015-16 season, announced today by the league office.

With 11 MAAC teams, each team will continue to play 20 league games, facing each team twice in the double round-robin format (“home-and-home”).

Notable matchups from the upcoming 2015-16 season include:

The first league game of the season, which will feature Iona College at Fairfield University on Wednesday, Dec. 2 at Alumni Hall in Fairfield, Connecticut.

·         The following day, Thursday Dec. 3, the defending MAAC Champion Quinnipiac University will head to Poughkeepsie, New York to take on Marist College, in a 2015 MAAC Championship Game rematch at McCann Arena. Marist will travel to Hamden, Connecticut on Thursday, Feb. 18 to face the Bobcats at the TD Bank Sports Center.

·         The “hOUR-glass” rivalry between the New Jersey schools of Monmouth University, Rider University, and Saint Peter’s University will begin on Wednesday, Jan. 6, with Saint Peter’s hosting Monmouth at the Yanitelli Center in Jersey City. The rivalry will continue when Rider hosts Monmouth on Thursday, Jan. 21 in Lawrenceville, followed by Saint Peter’s hosting Rider on Tuesday, Feb. 9. On Thursday, Feb. 18, Rider will host Saint Peter’s. One week later on Thursday, Feb. 25 Monmouth welcomes Rider to The MAC. Three days later on Sunday, Feb. 28 Saint Peter’s will face Monmouth in West Long Branch on the final day of the regular season.

·         Canisius College and Niagara University meet on Thursday, Jan.28 for the first game of the “Battle of the Bridge” rivalry when the two Western New York schools square off at the Gallagher Center on the campus of Niagara University. The two rival schools will play again on Thursday, Feb. 25 on Canisius’ home court, the Koessler Athletic Center.

·         Connecticut rivals, Fairfield University and Quinnipiac University meet for the first time in 2016 on Friday, Jan. 22, at Alumni Hall in Bridgeport and matchup again on Friday, Feb. 26, at the TD Bank Sports Center in Hamden.

·         Iona College and Manhattan College, two New York City rivals, continue its rivalry on Saturday, Jan. 2 in New Rochelle at Iona. The Manhattan Jaspers to welcome Iona to the newly renovated Draddy Gymnasium on Monday, Jan. 18.

·         Marist College and Siena College will battle at McCann Arena in Poughkeepsie, New York on Thursday, Jan. 28 The return matchup takes place on Thursday, Feb. 25 when Marist heads to Loudonville, New York to take on the Saints at the Alumni Recreation Center.

The full 2015-16 MAAC television broadcast schedule will be announced on a later date.

The MAAC season concludes with the 2016 MAAC Basketball Championships, March 3-7, at the Times Union Center in Albany, New York. The 2016 MAAC Championship title game will take place on Monday, March 7 at 2:30 p.m. and will air live on ESPNU with the winner earning the leagues automatic bid to the NCAA Championship.
