Monmouth Sweeps Weekly Awards After Clinching the Top Seed in MAAC Championship

Alyssa Ercolino scored three times in a weekend that saw the Hawks claim their third-straight MAAC Field Hockey Regular Season Championship. On Friday against Bryant, the senior put the Hawks in front 2-0 before the break with a deflection off a corner. Two days later, the local product scored both goals in MU’s 2-0 win over Fairfield for her 11th and 12th goals of the season. For the weekend, Ercolino totaled six points on her three markers, one being a game-winner, while attempting five shots with three reaching target.
Defensive Player of the Week
Julie Laszlo, Monmouth

Julie Laszlo and the defense turned in Monmouth’s eighth and ninth shutouts of the season, not yielding a goal in 140 minutes of play. The defender, who also posted six points on a goal and four assists, helped the defensive unit limit Bryant and Fairfield to just 13 shots and four corner opportunities over the two games. Laszlo has registered a point in six-straight games, compiling 22 points over that span.
Rookie of the Week
Josephine van der Hoop, Monmouth

Freshman Josephine van der Hoop, who started both games last weekend, registered the game-winning goal in the Hawks’ 4-0 victory over Bryant on Friday. The rookie collected a loose ball in the circle and connected with her sixth goal of the season 2:20 into regulation which proved to be all what the Hawks needed. van der Hoop had five shots over the two games with three attempts reaching cage.
