MAAC Sports
Wilson Offensive Player of the Week
Gretta Dry, Canisius
Fr., F, Lockport, NY/Lockport
Canisius freshman forward Gretta Dry broke a scoreless tie in the 54th minute as the Golden Griffins defeated Niagara 4-0 in a Battle of the Bridge contest Sept. 28. Next game, at home versus Manhattan, Dry’s penalty kick in the 57th minute was the difference as the Griffs won 1-0. Last week, Dry had two goals and one assist in the Griffs’ two MAAC wins. Dry’s week helped Canisius move to 3-1 in the MAAC for the first time since 2011 and only the third time in program history.
Wilson Defensive Player of the Week
Bethany-May Howard, Rider
Sr., GK, Glastonbury, England/Bridgwater College
Recorded two shutouts on the road against Saint Peter’s and Niagara, making nine saves. Howard is now a four-time MAAC Defensive Player of the Week this season. She has earned this honor ten times in her career as a Bronc.
Wilson Rookie of the Week
Ally Grunstein, Quinnipiac
Fr., F, Warren, NJ/Watchung Hills Regional
The Bobcats’ top scoring rookie put together another dynamic week as she posted four points on one goal and two assists across Quinnipiac’s undefeated 2-0 week. Coming off the bench in both games, Grunstein made quite the impact in her limited minutes as she punched in the game-winning goal in the Bobcats’ 2-1 win over Fairfield on Wednesday. The goal was her third of the season and the first game-winner of her young career. She followed that up with a two-assist performance coming in a dominating 3-0 win over Marist on Saturday. Her second multi-assist game of the season gives her six helpers for the season as she leads the MAAC in that category. One of her two assists came on the game-winning goal late in the first half as she again came off the bench, totaling just 39 minutes in the three-goal victory.
