2016 MAAC Field Hockey Major Awards Announced

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) has announced the 2016 Field Hockey Major Award winners and All-MAAC teams, as voted upon by the leagues seven head coaches.

The 2016 MAAC Rookie of the Year is Daane Koch, from Rider University. The Netherlands native Koch tallied 30 points this season, which led all rookies and tied for third in the conference. Koch was MAAC Rookie of the Week four times, and was one time offensive player of the week this season.

The MAAC 2016 MAAC Defensive Player of the Year and the unanimous MAAC Player of the Year is Julie Laszlo from Monmouth University. Laszlo led the MAAC in seven statistical categories including points, points per game, goals, goals per game, total assists, assists per game, and shots per game. Laszlo recorded 39 points on 13 goals and 13 assists.

The 2016 MAAC Goalkeeper of the Year is Christen Piersanti from Monmouth University. Piersanti had ten shutouts which leads the conference. She also led the MAAC in goals against average (0.97), save percentage (.795), and minuets played (1,155:00). This is Piersanti's second consecutive goalkeeper of the year win.

The 2016 MAAC Offensive Player of the Year is Alyssa Ercolino from Monmouth University. Ercolino, who was offensive player of the week three times this season, recorded 34 points and was second in the MAAC behind her teammate, Julie Laszlo. Ercolino was second in the conference points (34), points per game (2.00), goals (12), goals per game (0.71), assists (10), and assists per game (0.59). Ercolino led the league in game winning goals (4).

The MAAC 2016 Coach of the Year is Carli Figlio from Monmouth University. Figlio, who was voted unanimously by her peers, led the Hawks to its third straight regular season going undefeated in conference play.
