Monmouth and Quinnipiac to Meet in 2016 MAAC Women's Soccer Championship Game

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – No. 1 Monmouth University will meet No. 4 Quinnipiac University in the 2016 MAAC Women’s Soccer Championship Game on Sunday, November 6 at 3:00 p.m. at Hesse Field on the campus of Monmouth University and will air live on ESPN3.
The number one seed Monmouth University (9-0-1) advanced to the championship game after a 4-1 defeat of number six seed Marist College (5-4-1) in the semifinals. The Hawks were led by junior forward Rachelle Ross, who tallied two goals and an assist en route to victory. 2016 MAAC Women’s Soccer Rookie of the Year, Madie Gibson got the scoring going for Monmouth when she found the back of the net in the 20th minute.
Red-shirt senior forward Rachael Ivanicki scored the Hawks’ third goal of the evening, when she headed in a feed from Gibson in the 32nd minute of play. Freshman goalkeeper Amanda Knaub registered four saves and allowed one goal.
Number four seed Quinnipiac University (7-4) advanced to the Championship final after a 1-0 victory in the semifinals over defending Champions, number two seed Siena College (7-4). The Bobcats were led by a strong defensive effort and a goal by senior forward Al Pelletier in the 48th minute to propel Quinnipiac to the championship game.
Bobcats’ freshman goalkeeper Olivia Myszewski made five saves on the evening and recorded her third shutout of the season in the victory.
Monmouth and Quinnipiac last met on Saturday, October 15 at Hesse Field. The Hawks defeated the Bobcats, 2-1 in overtime on a game-winning goal scored by Rachelle Ross in the 96th minute of play.
The winner of the 2016 MAAC Women’s Soccer Championship will receive the leagues automatic bid to the 2016 NCAA Women’s Soccer Championship. The NCAA Selection Show for Division I Women’s Soccer will air on NCAA.com on Monday, November 7 at 4:30 p.m.
