Player of the Week
Moriah Harris, Canisius

Canisius sophomore Moriah Harris hit .500 (6-for-12) with a double, a home run, three RBI and two runs scored as the Golden Griffins opened the 2016 season at the Titan Classic in Fullerton, Calif., last weekend. In the team’s first game of the season, she went 2-for-3 with a run scored, and she collected her first double of the season on Feb. 13 in the Griffs’ 3-2 loss to UTSA. In the team’s loss to Weber State Feb. 14, she hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the first to put the Blue and Gold up 3-0 early in the game. For the week, she had a .500 on-base percentage, and a .833 slugging percentage, to go with 13 defensive putouts. She has reached base safely in 13 of the team last 14 games, dating back to last season.
Pitcher of the Week
Sierra Bertrand, Niagara
Fr., P/OF, 5-11, Stirling, Ont/St. Theresa SS
Sierra Bertrand’s first collegiate start in the circle helped Niagara to its first win of the season, a 4-1 victory over the Bowling Green Falcons Feb. 13 during the Cleveland State Dome Tournament. Bertrand pitched 6.2 innings in her start Saturday, allowing just one run (zero earned) on seven hits while striking out five batters. Combined with her 0.2 innings in relief Feb. 12 against Morehead State, Bertrand completed Niagara’s first weekend as the team leader in ERA (0.00) and is tied for the team lead with six strikeouts.
Rookie of the Week
Jennifer Szilagyi, Niagara
Fr., P/OF, 5-8, North Granby, CT/Granby Memorial HS
In three games at the Cleveland State Dome Tournament last weekend, Niagara freshman Jennifer Szilagyi led the team with a .500 batting average and .556 on-base percentage, finishing 4-for-8 with one double, two RBIs, and one run. Szilagyi’s best game of the weekend was a 2-for-3 performance Feb. 13 in a 7-5 loss to the Robert Morris Colonials. The North Granby, Connecticut native contributed to each run scored in a three-run second inning for the Purple Eagles. Szilagyi scored two runs on an RBI hit up the middle and advanced to second base on an errant throw. Szilagyi then advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored off of a single by Sarah Trifoso.
