EDISON, N.J. – The University at Albany has been selected as the favorite to win the 2016 MAAC Women’s Golf Championship for the second year in a row.  The Great Danes look to defend their title after defeating Siena College by 11 strokes in 2015. They received a total of 62 votes, including six first-place votes to claim the top spot.

The Great Danes are led by sophomore and two-time golfer of the month, Annie Songeun Lee. Lee was the 2015 individual champion, scoring a three-day total of 226 (+10). During the fall season, Lee took home two individual titles along with three other top 10 finishes. Her first title came when she won the UAlbany-Siena Dual while shooting a 79 and leading the Great Danes to victory over conference rival Siena. Lee later led Albany to a team win in the 11-team Quinnipiac Classic, placing first individually in a field of 57 golfers. Teammmates Paige Fujihara and Yoorim Kang also had successful showings, placing third and eighth respectively.

Quinnipiac and Dayton were the other schools to receive first-place votes. Quinnipiac finished second with 48 points and one first-place vote, while Dayton finished third with 44 points and one first-place vote. Hartford finished close behind with 41 points, followed by Monmouth (39), Siena (25), Fairfield (20), and Niagara (9).
