Offensive Player of the Week

Mary Kate McCormick, Iona

Sr., A, 5-7, Port Jefferson, NY/Comsewogue

Senior attack Mary Kate McCormick was the standout performer for the Gaels this past week. In the season opener against Wagner, McCormick facilitated the offense with eight assists to go along with one goal for nine points to lead the team to 17-12 win. In the nail bitting loss to Brown 13-11, McCormick again led the in creating the Gaels attack dishing out five assists as well as another goal. She had 13 points this week to lead the team.

Defensive Player of the Week

Caroline Huelster, Monmouth

Sr., GK, 5-8, Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape

Huelster backstopped the Hawks to consecutive wins last week, including a 12-10 win over Big Ten opponent and in-state rival Rutgers University. The Mt. Laurel NJ Product set a career high with nine saves against the Scarlet Knights, including two stops inside the final 36 seconds when Monmouth was holding on to a two goal lead. The senior reset her career high in Monmouth’s come from behind win against Lafayette on Saturday, making 10 saves against the Leopards. She anchored a defense that didn’t allow a goal in the final 15:04 of the Hawks’ first road win of the year. Active outside of the crease, Huelster had seven ground balls and a caused turnover in the two wins. Over the weekend she posted a 9.50 goals against average and a .500 save percentage.

Rookie of the Week

Christine Gironda, Iona

Fr., M, 6-1, Centereach, NY/Middle Country

Freshman midfielder Christine Gironda was the Gaels standout rookie this past week. In her first collegiate game and the season opening victory over Wagner 17-12, Gironda scored three goals and secured a team high four ground balls. In the nail bitting loss to Brown 13-11, Gironda notched another goal and two ground balls.
