MAAC ANNOUNCES 2015-16 ALL-MAAC MEN'S BASKETBALL TEAMS

EDISON, NJ – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) announces the 2015-16 Men's Basketball All-MAAC Teams, selected by the league’s 11 head coaches.
The first team is made up of Marcus Gilbert of Fairfield University, A.J. English from Iona College, Shane Richards from Manhattan College, Justin Robinson of Monmouth University, and Brett Bisping of Siena College. English, Robinson, and Bisping were all unanimous selections to the first team. These five players are now eligible to be named the 2015-16 MAAC Player of the Year, also selected by the head coaches of the league. The winner will be announced on Friday, March 4 at 5:00 p.m. at the Postseason Awards Show located at the Renaissance Hotel Ball Room. The show will be broadcast live on ESPN3.
Gilbert, a 6-foot-6, senior forward from Smyyrna, Delaware, was named to the All-MAAC First Team after leading Fairfield a fifth place finish in the regular season. He ranks fourth in the MAAC in scoring averaging 17.1 points, and third in the league in three-point field goals per game, averaging 2.6 an outing. Gilbert also ranks ninth in defensive rebounds, averaging 4.5 per game and 10th in three-point field goal percentage, shooting 38.4 percent.
English, a 6-foot-4, senior guard from Wilmington, Delaware, was named unanimously to the All-MAAC First Team for the second straight year and makes the team for the third consecutive season overall. He leads the MAAC in scoring averaging 22.3 points, and leads the league in assists, averaging 6.1 per game. English also leads the conference with 3.3 made three-point field goals per contest and ranks sixth with his 84 percent free throw percentage. The unanimous Preseason Player of the Year was named MAAC Player of the Week three times this season.
Richards, a 6-foot-5, senior forward from New York, New York, earns a spot on the All-MAAC First Team for the first time. He finishes the regular season ranked fifth in the league in scoring, averaging 17.0 points per game. Richards ranks second in free throw percentage, connecting on 87.3 percent of his charity stripe shots and he also ranks seventh in three-point field goals made per game with 2.5. He is the league leader in minutes played per game this season, logging 36.6 minutes for the Jaspers.
Robinson, a 5-foot-8, junior guard from Lake Katrine, New York, makes the All-MAAC First Team for the second year in a row after leading Monmouth to its first ever MAAC regular season title and a program record 25 wins. He is currently ranked third in the conference with his 20.2 points per game average and seventh in assists with a 3.7 average. Robinson’s 2.1 steals per contest leads the league and his 1.7 assists to turnover ratio is good for sixth. He won MAAC Player of the Week three times during his junior campaign.
Bisping, a 6-foot-8, redshirt-junior forward from Peoria, Illinois, lead a Siena team that lost 20 games last season, to 20 wins and a third place MAAC finish in 2015-16. He is the league leader in rebounds, grabbing 10.4 boards per game and ranks eighth in scoring, averaging 15.8 points per outing. Bisping leads the league with 8.1 defensive rebounds per game and ranks seventh in offensive rebounds, averaging 2.3 per contest. He was named MAAC Player of the Week three times this year.
The 2015-16 All-MAAC Second Team is made up sophomore guard Tyler Nelson of Fairfield University, Iona College junior forward Jordan Washington, junior guard Khallid Hart from Marist College, the Saint Peter’s University junior duo of frontcourt player Quadir Welton and backcourt guard of Trevis Wyche, and Siena College junior forward Javion Ogunyemi.
This season's third unit is also a formidable group. The Third Team consists of Monmouth University’s senior guard Deon Jones and freshman guard Micah Seaborn, Niagara University sophomore guard Matt Scott, and the Rider University duo of graduate guard Teddy Okerefor and junior forward Kahlil Thomas.
