MAAC Announces 2015-16 All-MAAC Women's Basketball Teams

EDISON, NJ – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) announces the 2015-16 Women's Basketball All-MAAC Teams as selected by the league’s 11 head coaches.

The first team consists of Kristin Schatzlein from Fairfield University, Iona College’s Joy Adams and Marina Lizarazu, and Marist College’s Sydney Coffey and Tori Jarosz. Adams, Coffey and Jarosz were all unanimous selections to the first team. These five players are now in the running to be named as the 2015-16 MAAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Year, which is also selected by a vote of the leagues head coaches. The winner is announced on Friday, March 4 at 5:00 p.m. at the Postseason Awards Show located at the Renaissance Hotel Ballroom. The show will be broadcast live on ESPN3.

Schatzlein, a 6-foot-0, senior guard from Tolland, CT, ranked fifth in the MAAC with 2.2 made three-pointers per game and a 1.3 assist/turnover ratio, ninth with 3.0 assists per game, and thirteenth in scoring with 11.6 points per game while averaging 36.0 minutes per game, which ranks second in the MAAC.

Adams, a 5-foot-11, senior forward from Orlando, FL, was a unanimous selection to the All-MAAC First Team. Adams finished second in the MAAC with 14.7 points per game and tied for first 12.1 rebounds per game. Adams was first in the conference with 4.5 offensive rebounds per game and third in the conference with 2.1 steals per game. She was named MAAC Player of the Week three times this season. Adams is a repeat All-MAAC First Team selection.

Lizarazu, a 5-foot-8, junior guard from Madrid, Spain, joins her teammate on the All-MAAC First Team. Lizarazu finished second in the MAAC with 5.0 assists per game and 155 total assists. She finished seventh in the conference with 12.1 points per game while averaging 1.8 steals, good for fifth in the MAAC while playing 34.7 minutes per game, the fourth most in the conference.

Coffey, a 6-foot-0 senior guard from Hopkins, MN, was second in the MAAC with 15.4 points per game. She finished second in the conference with a 2.1 assist/turnover ratio, fourth in the conference with 3.7 assists per game and sixth in the conference with a 44.1 field goal percentage. Coffey, a unanimous selection to the All-MAAC First Team, was named MAAC Player of the Week on December 14.

Jarosz, a 6-foot-3, senior center from Cortland Manor, NY finds herself on the All-MAAC team with her teammate after a great all-around season for the Red Foxes. The four-time MAAC Player of the Week finished first in the MAAC with 18.8 points and tied for first with 12.1 rebounds per game. Jarosz also finished first in the conference with a 49.0 field-goal percentage, 3.0 blocked shots per game, and 9.3 defensive rebounds per game. Jarosz was a unanimous selection to the All-MAAC First Team and is repeat All-MAAC First Team selection.

The 2015-16 All-MAAC Second Team has of seven players who all shined on the court this season. The second team squad consists of Crystal Porter of Canisius College, Manhattan College guard Amani Tatum. Monmouth University senior Sarah Olson, Niagara University’s Sam Lapszynski, Maria Napolitano of Quinnipiac University, Robin Perkins from Rider University, and Kollyns Scarbrough from Siena College.

The 2015-16 All-MAAC Third Team has Fairfield University teammates Kelsey Carey and Casey Smith, Monmouth University’s Jamiyah Bethune, Aryn McClure from Quinnipiac University and Saint Peter’s University’s Sajanna Bethea.
