Player of the Week
Troy Scocca, Fairfield
Jr., OF, 5-11, Syosset, NY/St. Dominic
Troy Scocca hit .300, scored a team-high seven runs, and had a on-base-percentage of .533 in helping the Stags start off the 2016 season 3-0, the best start in program history. Scocca got a hit in every game, and blasted two home runs in his 10 at-bats. Scocca also drew a team-high four walks and reached base eight times in the series. With his team-high two home runs and four RBI, Scocca led the team with a .900 slugging percentage. Scocca's offense was the spark plug in the Stags scoring a combined 37 runs, which is the most a Stags team has ever scored through their first four games.
Pitcher of the Week
Justin Thomas, Quinnipiac
Sr., LHP, 6-1, Enfield, CT/Enfield
Justin Thomas picked up his first win of the season and 11th of his career to lead the Bobcats past the Appalachian State Mountaineers, 7-2. He tossed the longest outing for a Quinnipiac starter, going seven innings and yielding just two hits. Thomas allowed two runs, only one of which were earned while walking just one batter and recording three strikeouts. Thomas posted a 1.29 ERA for the week and an opponent batting average of just .083.
Rookie of the Week
Fabian Pena, Manhattan
Fr., C, 5-9, Miami, FL/Calusa Prep
Pena had an impressive debut with Manhattan. Notched multiple hits in all three games. Hit a team-leading .583 (7-of-12) with four runs, two doubles, two RBI and two walks en route to posting a .667 OBP. Reached base at an incredible .875 clip when he put the ball in play. Began his collegiate career by going 2-for-3 with two doubles, a run, walk and HBP against Old Dominion. Followed that up by going 2-for-4 with a run, RBI and walk in 10-2 win over Delaware. Capped his big weekend with 3-for-5, two-run performance against Virginia Tech.
