Monmouth Duo of Reyes and Underhill, Marist's Oberdorf Win Softball Weekly Awards

Player of the Week

Justene Reyes, Monmouth

Jr., 1B, 6-0, Carson, CA/Warren

Reyes erupted for four home runs, 11 RBI’s and six runs scored as the Hawks went 3-2 at the Loyola Marymount Tournament this weekend. She had at least one hit, one RBI and one run scored in each of the five games, while homering in four of the five games. Her three-run home run tied the game with the host Lions in the fifth inning, while she sparked a four-run fourth in the first game against FDU on Friday and a six-run sixth against the Knights on Saturday. On Sunday’s come-from-behind win over Harvard, she cut the Hawks’ deficit in half with a solo home run in the fifth and tied the game with an RBI groundout in the seventh. It was her spot on the base paths that scored the winning run, as Jasmine Higa pinch ran for Reyes in the seventh. For the year, Reyes now has hit .310 with five home runs, 18 RBI’s, 10 runs scored and a .714 slugging percentage.

Pitcher of the Week

Sydney Underhill, Monmouth

Jr., P, 5-10, Temecula, CA/Chaparral

Underhill posted a 0.36 ERA in posting a 3-2 record at the Loyola Marymount Tournament. She surrendered six runs, but just one earned, while striking out seven in 19.1 innings pitched. Underhill got the start against FDU on Friday and shut out the Knights for four innings to earn the win. She came on in relief against the host Lions and allowed just one unearned run in 3.2 innings pitched. Getting her second start of the week on Saturday, Underhill gave up five runs, but just one earned, in a 5-4 loss to Harvard. She bounced back later in the day, inheriting a bases-loaded, no-out situation with a one-run lead, and allowed just one of the inherited base runners to score. She went on to earn the win with four scoreless innings, while striking out four. Underhill then worked four scoreless innings of relief against Harvard on Sunday as the Hawks came from behind to defeat the Crimson, 6-5. For the year, Underhill is now 5-5 with a 2.32 ERA.

Rookie of the Week

Claire Oberdorf, Marist

Fr., U, 5-6, Greensburg, PA/Greensburg Salem

Oberdorf made her collegiate softball debut this past weekend at the UMBC Dawg Pound Invitational after having played for Marist’s women’s basketball team. She started four of Marist’s five games and hit .462 (6-for-13) with a team-high nine RBIs to go along with a .500 on-base percentage and .615 slugging percentage as the Red Foxes went 4-1 on the weekend. She added two runs scored, two doubles and a walk. Oberdorf made her first collegiate start in the second game of a doubleheader against Coppin State on March 11, and went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored. Against Morgan State on March 12, she went 2-for-3 with three RBIs, as she belted a two-out bases-clearing double in the fourth inning. Later that day against UMBC, she went 1-for-3 with an RBI. Against Mount St. Mary’s on March 13, she went 1-for-2 with three RBIs, a run scored and a walk. She once again delivered a bases-clearing double, this time in the first inning. Oberdorf made starts at three different positions: catcher, second base and shortstop. She made just one error in 30 chances for a fielding percentage of .967.
