Player of the Week

Jake Lumley, Canisius

Jr., 2B, 6-0, Windsor, Ontario/Holy Names

Junior infielder Jake Lumley was an offensive catalyst for the Griffs this weekend, as he helped the squad to a perfect 4-0 record including a three-game sweep of Saint Peter’s in the conference opener. Lumley finished the week with nine hits on 15 at bats with a .600 batting average. He recorded six RBI, one double one triple and a homerun during the week. He also earned four free-passes. The junior second basemen was a key in two comebacks during the series vs. Peacocks, recording four hits and one RBI in an 8-7 (11 inning) win in game one, while recording two hits and four RBI with a long ball against the Saint Peter’s in a 11-7 win on Sunday. Lumley finished the weekend with a .650 on base percentage and a 1.000 slugging percentage.

Pitcher of the Week

J.P. Stevenson, Canisius

So., LHP, 6-3, New Glasgow, Prince Edward Island/Vauxhall

Stevenson proved to be strong once again for the Blue and Gold, going the distance in game two of the Griffs’ series against Saint Peter’s as he yielded just six hits and no runs in a complete game shutout of the Peacocks. The second-year hurler earned his second win of the year allowing just six base runners and fanning a season-high eight batters as he threw just 64 pitches in the seven-frame contest. Stevenson helped the Griffs earn the series win on Saturday, completing the doubleheader sweep, as Canisius won 9-0.

Rookie of the Week

Fabian Pena, Manhattan

Fr., C, 5-9, Miami, FL/Calusa Prep

Hit .538 (7-for-13) with four doubles, three runs and three walks while batting safely in all four games. Opened his big week by going 3-for-3 with two doubles, two RBI, a walk and a run in win over Hofstra. In the series opener at Lehigh notched a single and a run before throwing out a runner at second to end the game. In Saturday’s game-one victory, was 2-for-3 with a double, two RBI, a walk and a stolen base. Capped his big weekend with a RBI single in the finale. On the year, is hitting .324 with 24 hits, 11 runs, a team-leading nine doubles, two home runs and 16 RBI.
