MAAC Announces 2015-16 Women's Basketball Major Award Winners

ALBANY, NY – Marist College senior center Tori Jarosz is the 2015-16 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Women’s Basketball Player of the Year, as voted upon by the leagues 11 head coaches.

Jarosz, a 6-foot-3, senior center from Cortland Manor, NY earned this award following a great all-around season for the Red Foxes. The four-time MAAC Player of the Week finished first in the MAAC with 18.8 points and tied for first with 12.1 rebounds per game. Jarosz also finished first in the conference with a 49.0 field-goal percentage, 3.0 blocked shots per game, and 9.3 defensive rebounds per game. Jarosz was a unanimous selection to the All-MAAC First Team and is repeat All-MAAC First Team selection.

Quinnipiac University’s Aryn McClure is the 2015-16 MAAC Women’s Basketball Rookie of the Year.

McClure, a 5-foot-11 freshman guard/forward from Springfield Gardens, NY was named MAAC Rookie of the Week four times this season for the Bobcats. McClure was fourth in the conference with a 46.9 field goal percentage and ranked seventh in the MAAC with 1.6 blocked shots per game. She also ranked tenth in the conference with 6.9 rebounds per game.

The MAAC Defensive Player of the year is Manhattan College’s Amani Tatum. Tatum, a 5-foot-7, sophmore guard from Cambria Heights, NY led the MAAC with 97 steals while averaging a league best 3.3 swipes per game. She ranked ninth in the conference with 11.9 points per game and eighth in the conference with 3.2 assists per game. Tatum was eighth in the MAAC with a 74.2 field goal percentage and ninth in conference with a 0.9 assist to turnover ratio. Tatum was named MAAC Player of the Week on January 25.

Alexis Lewis from Iona College and Jasmine McCall of Monmouth University are the 2015-16 MAAC Women’s Basketball Co- Sixth Players of the Year. Lewis, a 5-foot-10, freshman guard from Pittston, PA, ranked second among freshman with 9.3 points per game and fifth in the conference in three-point field goal percentage, shooting 37.2 percent from long distance. Lewis was named MAAC Rookie of the Week on December 14.

McCall, a 5-foot-9, senior guard from Manalapan, NJ averaged 8.5 points in 14.5 minutes per game for the Hawks in her senior season.  She shot 36.0 percent from beyond the arc and 73.2 percent from the free-throw line. McCall recorded a 38.9 field goal percentage and had 14 steals in 23 games played.
