Iona College Advances to MAAC Women's Basketball Championship Game

ALBANY, NY – The second semifinals matchup of the 2016 MAAC Women’s Basketball Championship saw the two seeded Iona College Gaels defeat third seeded Marist College, 57-53 Gaels will now take on Quinnipiac University in the 2016 MAAC Women’s Basketball Championship Game.

This semifinal game, a rematch of the 2013 MAAC Women’s Basketball Championship Game went down to the wire. Iona College was led by All-MAAC First Team Selection Marina Lizarazu, who posted a game-high 22 points. Joy Adams posted a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Phileca Gilmore hit two free-throws at the end of the fourth quarter to secure the win for the Gaels. She finished with 16 points on five-for-10 shooting.

Marist College was led by the 2016 MAAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Year Tori Jarosz. Jarosz posted 18 points and nine rebounds. The Gaels will look to dethrone the defending champion Bobcats tomorrow afternoon.

The 2016 MAAC Women’s Championship title game takes place tomorrow, Monday, March 7 at 2:30 p.m. and will air live on ESPNU with the winner earning the leagues automatic bid to the NCAA Championship.
