Iona College Crowned 2015-16 MAAC Women's Basketball Champions

ALBANY, NY – The Iona College Gaels defeated the Quinnipiac University Bobcats 57-41 to win the 2015-16 MAAC Women’s Basketball Championship. This is the first-ever MAAC Championship victory in the history of Iona College Gaels women’s basketball.

The Gaels were led by the All-MAAC First Team duo of Joy Adams and Marina Lizarazu. They combined for 30 points in this championship final game. Adams added 13 rebounds to post her 21st double-double of the season, which is tied for fifth most in the NCAA. Iona College held Quinnipiac University to 27.6% shooting from the floor. The Gaels outscored the Bobcats 16-9 in the final quarter to claim victory. Co-Sixth Player of the Year Alexis Lewis added nine points and seven rebounds.

Lizarazu was named Most Valuable Player of the MAAC Women’s Basketball Championship. Adams was named to the All-Championship Team. Iona will represent the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference by the earning the leagues automatic bid to the NCAA Championship.
