Player of the Week

Jill Freese, Monmouth

Sr., C, 5-11, Oxford, PA/Oxford Area

Freese led the Hawks with a .625 batting average (5-for-8) with a .769 on-base percentage, a home run, a double, a stolen base and six RBI’s as Monmouth defeated Georgetown, Maryland and George Washington this weekend at the District Invite. Freese reached base safely on 10-of-13 plate appearance on the weekend, including a double, a home run, three singles, four walks and a hit-by-pitch. She started the weekend by going 2-for-2 with a pair of singles, an RBI and a hit-by-pitch in the Hawks’ 10-0 win over Georgetown. She then had a two-run double in the Hawks’ win over Maryland and followed with a 2-for-2 effort with a three-run home run and a single in defeat against Robert Morris. Freese rounded out the weekend by reaching twice via walks in three plate appearances and stealing a base as Monmouth defeated George Washington. For the year, Freese leads MU in batting average (.438), home runs (2), slugging percentage (.875) and on-base percentage (.654). She’s also been successful on both of her stolen-base attempts.

Pitcher of the Week

Amanda Riley, Monmouth

So., P, 5-11, Tracy, CA/John C. Kimball

Riley didn’t allow an earned run in 13.2 innings pitched this weekend at the District Invite. She posted a 2-1 record with nine strikeouts, earning a complete-game shutout against Georgetown and another victory against George Washington. She limited the Hoyas to two hits and two walks to begin the weekend, before hurling 1.2 innings of perfect relief against Maryland, striking out three. On Sunday, she allowed seven runs, but none of them were earned. She took the loss against Robert Morris after defensive miscues allowed the Colonials to take the win, while none of the three runs she surrendered in a win against George Washington were earned. For the year, she’s now posted a 1.91 ERA.  

Rookie of the Week

Lauren Pitney, Manhattan

Fr., IF, 5-6, Ansonia, CT/St. Joseph’s

Pitney hit .412 with two home runs and 11 RBIs in five Manhattan wins last week.  In game two the doubleheader sweep of Hartford on Tuesday, she missed her first career home run by inches, settling for an RBI double off the top of the wall in the 9-2 win.  Pitney then belted her first career home run against Hampton on Saturday, crushing a grand slam to cap an eight-run third, as the Jaspers came back from a 4-1 deficit to post a 12-4 victory.  She went deep again on Sunday, smashing a three-run shot during Manhattan’s five-run fourth in a 10-7 triumph over Hampton.  Pitney slugged .824 and had an on-base percentage of .500 in the five games.
