LAKE BUENA VISTA, FL – The Siena men’s team climbed two spots to win the 2016 Men’s Golf Championship at Disney’s Magnolia Golf Course in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, on Sunday, April 24. The Saints entered the final round six-strokes behind Manhattan College and one-stroke behind Fairfield University.

The Saints chipped away at the Jaspers six-stroke lead to finish the round with identical scores of 890. The five members of the two teams went head-to-head on the 18th hole as Siena finished the one-hole playoff two strokes ahead of Manhattan to claim its first men’s title since 2007.

Siena finished with three golfers in the top-ten, the most of any school. Sophomore Michael Christifulli (219) surged four spots to finish T3, while junior Scott Kim (222) finished T6 and senior Michael Shine (223) finished in 8th place.

Saint Peter’s senior Nicholas Dilio (212) was named the Men’s Most Outstanding Golfer after claiming the individual title. Dilio fired two birdies on the day to finish five strokes ahead of second place finisher, Ryan Lynch of Manhattan.

Iona's freshman Paolo Matti (224) was named the Men's Rookie of the Year as the top rookie finisher. Matti tied for ninth place alongside Canisius senior Hunter Sagar and Rider junior Parker Mann. The trio also earned All-MAAC honors for finishing in the top-ten.

Siena’s first-year head coach, Steve Jensen was voted the 2016 MAAC Men’s Coach of the Year.

Siena College will receive an automatic bid to the 2016 NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championship. The 2016 Division I Men’s Golf Championships selections announcement will be televised live via the Golf Channel Thursday, May 5 at 9:30 a.m.
