Quinnipiac Maintains Their Lead to Claim 2016 MAAC Women's Golf Championship

LAKE BUENA VISTA, FL – The Quinnipiac University Bobcats were able to hold on and win their first-ever MAAC Women’s Golf Championship on Sunday, April 24 at Disney’s Magnolia Golf Course in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. The Bobcats entered the final round with a 19-stroke advantage over Monmouth University and finished with a three-day total of 933.
The women’s leaderboard did not see any changes from the second round. Monmouth University (944) finished eleven-strokes behind the Bobcats in second place, while Siena College finished third (955).
Quinnipiac was led by freshman golfer, Luciana Tobia who finished the tournament with an overall score of +9 (225). As the top freshman finisher, Tobia was named Rookie of the Year. She was also crowned the Women’s Most Outstanding Golfer and received the McLeod Trophy after claiming the individual title.
The Bobcats added two more women to the top-ten as freshman Julia Kemmling (229) finished in fifth and senior Taylor Lambrou (239) finished T9.
Quinnipiac University coach, John O’Connor was voted the 2016 Women’s Coach of the Year by the league’s other coaches.
Quinnipiac University will receive an automatic bid to the 2016 NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Championship. The 2016 Division I Women’s Golf Championships selections announcement will be televised live via the Golf Channel Monday, April 25 at 6 p.m,
