Player of the Week

Matthew Batten, Quinnipiac

Jr., SS, 6-0, Shelton, CT/St. Joseph’s HS

Matthew Batten had an incredible week for the Bobcats as he led the team with 11 hits, two triples and nine RBIs while also stealing four bases. This week, Batten recorded four multiple-hit games, including three three-hit games, to give him 16 on the season and eight in his last 10 games. Batten leads the team with nine three-hit games. Batten recorded a single-game career-high two triples and five RBIs at Albany on Tuesday, April 19 as he was just the second Bobcat this season with a five-RBI game. Against the Jaspers, Batten was second on the team with six hits and four RBIs while swiping two bases. Batten stole second and third base in one trip on the base paths. He also drove in two RBIs in each of the last two games. 

Pitcher of the Week

Cody Eckerson, Niagara

R-So., LHP, 5-9, Palmyra, NY/Palmyra-Macedon HS

In a 3-0 shutout of Rider on Saturday, Cody Eckerson held the Broncs hitless for six innings. He only allowed one hit in his 7.0 innings pitched. Eckerson struck out nine batters and held his opponents to a .043 batting average.

Rookie of the Week

Brian Moskey, Quinnipiac

Fr., OF, 6-1, Higganum, CT/Haddam-Killingworth

Brian Moskey went on an absolute tear this week as he went 10 for 18 from the plate to bat .556 with nine runs scored, a double, triple, six RBIs and six walks. Moskey led the Bobcats in on base percentage and doubles and ranked in the top three of all offensive categories. Moskey was even better against the Jaspers in their series, going 8 for 11 to bat .727 with a .769 on base percentage and 1.000 slugging percentage. Moskey led the league with eight hits, six runs, a triple, and two walks. Moskey recorded two three-hit games and a two-hit game for the Bobcats against the Japsers to give him eight multi-hit games this season. He also extended his season-long hitting streak to nine games through the weekend. Moskey scored two runs in each of the three games against Manhattan. In the final game of the series, Moskey hit a key bases clearing triple to give the Bobcats a 7-3 lead in the fourth inning and also chipped in a double.
