Player of the Week

Elena Bowman, Manhattan

Sr., C, 5-8, San Mateo, CA/Aragon

Bowman hit .455 in six games last week.  After being walked five times in the first game of a doubleheader at Columbia on Wednesday, she hit her 50th career home run in the nightcap, becoming just the second player in MAAC history to reach that milestone.  Bowman then went a combined 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI in the doubleheader with Niagara on Saturday.  On Sunday, her 51st homer, a three-run shot, gave the Jaspers a 3-2 lead in an eventual 11-4 victory over Canisius in the second game of a twinbill.  In the six games, she had five hits, including the two home runs, while being walked 13 times.  Bowman slugged 1.000 and had an on-base percentage of .750 with six runs scored and five RBIs, as the Jaspers went 3-3.

Pitcher of the Week

Lauren Falkanger, Fairfield

Sr., P, 5-7, Bloomington, MN/Jefferson

Falkanger posted a pair of wins in MAAC play last week, defeating Saint Peter's and Quinnipiac. The senior tossed a one-hit shutout over five innings while fanning eight and walking just one in an 8-0 win over Saint Peter's. She came back and hurled eight innings in a 2-1 victory against Quinnipiac. Once again, she allowed just one hit in the game, striking out seven and walking two. For the week, Falkanger owned a 0.53 ERA and struck out 15 hitters in 13 innings of work.

Rookie of the Week

Destiny Holani, Canisius

Fr., C, 5-4, Honolulu, Hawaii/Roosevelt

Canisius freshman Destiny Holani hit .545 (6-for-11) with two doubles, five runs scored and four RBI last week in four MAAC road games at Saint Peter’s and Manhattan. In the Griffs’ 8-3 win over the Peacocks April 23, the Honolulu, Hawaii, native went 2-for-4 with two doubles, a run scored and a career-high three runs batted in, and she followed that effort with two hits, a run scored and an RBI in the team’s 3-1 win at Manhattan April 24. In a week where she drew two walks, she posted a .615 on-base percentage and a .727 slugging percentage and she was credited with 18 defensive putouts and two fielding assists from her catching position as well.
