Monmouth Defeats Canisius 6-3 in Game 8 of the 2016 MAAC Softball Championship

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – With its 6-3 win over Canisius, Monmouth will now face Quinnipiac at 4:30 p.m. with the winner of that game facing Marist in the championship game on Saturday, May 14 at noon.

Amanda Riley pitched 2.1 scoreless innings of relief to earn the save and seal the win for the Hawks. She also added an insurance run in the top of the sixth inning when she hit a home run over the left-centerfield wall. She finished 2-for-3 with an RBI. Canisius scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning highlighted by a Moriah Harris solo home run. The Griffs are now eliminated from the 2016 MAAC Sofball Championship.

The 2016 MAAC Softball Championship is a double elimination style tournament with the championship final taking place on Saturday, May 14 at noon. If the team coming out of the loser’s bracket defeats the team in the winners’ bracket, the second and deciding game will take place at 2:30 p.m.
 
The winner of the 2016 MAAC Softball Championship will earn an automatic bid into the NCAA Championship. The NCAA Softball Selection Show is on Sunday, May 15 on ESPNU at 10:00 p.m.
