Siena Advances to its Fourth Straight Championship Series with Shutout win over Canisius

FISHKILL, NY – No. 2 Siena defeated No.4 Canisius, 5-0, in game 9 of the 2016 MAAC Baseball Championship and advances to play No. 1 Fairfield tomorrow at noon in the championship series.
Siena scored one run in both the first and second innings and then pushed it lead to 4-0 on a two-run homer by Brian Kelly in the third, extending its lead to 4-0 after three innings.
The star of the night was Siena starting pitcher Chris Amorosi who pitched 7.2 scoreless innings and struck out four batters in the win. Bryan Goossens closed out the game with two strike outs to pick up the save a preserve the shutout win for the Saints.
Siena is making its fourth straight championship series appearance and fifth in six years which included winning the title in 2014. The Saints will be looking to win their sixth overall MAAC championship.
The 2016 MAAC Baseball Championship is a double-elimination style tournament. The championship game takes place on Saturday, May 28 at noon with the, if necessary game taking place at 3:30 p.m.
The winner of the 2016 MAAC Baseball Championship will earn an automatic bid into the NCAA Championship. The NCAA Baseball Selection Show will be on Monday, May 30 on ESPNU at noon.
