MAAC Announces 2016 Men's Lacrosse Major Awards Winners

HAMDEN, CT – The 2016 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Men’s Lacrosse Major Award winners were voted upon by the leagues seven head coaches and announced during the annual awards show at host school Quinnipiac University.

Quinnipiac University’s Adam Bellamy and Will Vitelli were named Long Stick Midfielder and Face-Off Specialist of the Year, respectively. Bellamy led the conference with an average of 4.33 groundballs per game and his groundball average rose during MAAC play as he averaged 5.17 groundballs per game for the Bobcats in its six conference wins. Vitelli led the MAAC with a .581 faceoff percentage, winning 111 face-offs this season. His .581 faceoff percentage ranks in the top 20 in the NCAA. Vitelli was the unanimous selection for Face-Off Specialist of the Year.

Parker Giarratana, from Manhattan College, was voted as the unanimous 2016 MAAC Men’s Lacrosse Rookie of the Year. Giarratana ranked third in the league with 31 goals and 44 total points on the season. Giarratana was named MAAC Rookie of the Week a league-best, five times this season.

The 2016 MAAC Defensive Player of the Year award went to Brian Corrigan from Marist College. Corrigan led the MAAC with a 7.87 goals against average and a .600 save percentage, he ranked second in the conference with 168 saves and an average of 12.0 saves per game. He was named MAAC Defensive Player of the Week three times during the season.

Corrigan’s teammate, Joseph Radin was voted as the unanimous MAAC Offensive Player of the Year. Radin ranked first in the MAAC with 45 goals and 51 points. His average of 3.21 goals per game was first in the MAAC and fifth in the NCAA. Radin earned MAAC Offensive Player of Week honors two times this season. This is the second straight season that Radin has been named the MAAC Offensive Player of the Year.

The unanimous 2016 Lids Team Sports MAAC Coach of the Year was Eric Fekete of Quinnipiac University. In his 15th year at Quinnipiac, Fekete led the Bobcats to the MAAC regular season championship for the second time in program history. His Bobcats recorded a perfect 6-0 MAAC record and registered a 9-3 overall mark.

The All-MAAC First Team consists of four attackers, Marist teammates of Joseph Radin, who was a unanimous selection, and J.D. Recor, and the Quinnipiac duo of Brian Feldman and Ryan Keenan. At midfield, Jeff Edwards from Canisius, Gannon Morrison from Marist and Connor Meth from Quinnipiac. On defense, Paul Bitetti from Detroit, Marist’s Frankie Brier and Andrew Grajewski from Monmouth. Marist’s Brian Corrigan makes the All-MAAC First Team at the goalkeeper position.

The All-MAAC Second Team is composed of three attackers, Connor Kearnan from Canisius,

Mark Anstead from Detroit, and the MAAC Rookie of the Year, Parker Giarratana from Manhattan. Four midfielders made the All-MAAC Second Team, Nick Tuttle from Canisius,

Marist’s John Vigh, Foster Cuomo from Quinnipiac and Brian Prunty from Siena. Monmouth’s Cooper Class earned second team honors on defense along with the Quinnipiac trio of Adam Bellamy, Chris Kendall and Jack Brust at goalkeeper.

15 players were named to the All-MAAC Men’s Lacrosse Rookie Team including Canisius’ Logan Monroe and Michael Sanzone, Bo Pickens from Detroit, Manhattan’s Dylan Demuro and Parker Giarratana, Marist’s Thomas Rago and James Sarrocco, Monmouth’s Eamon Campbell, Griff Figel and Gordon Phillips, Quinnipiac’s Foster Cuomo, Matt Frost and Joe Murphy, Siena’s Keenan Cook and Eric Munn. Campbell, Cook, Giarratana, and Foster were all unanimous selections.
