Monmouth Women's Track and Field Crowned as the 2016 MAAC Champions

Lawrenceville, NJ - The Monmouth University Women's Track and Field team captured its third-straight title at the 2016 MAAC Outdoor Track & Field Championship at Rider University on Sunday, May 8 in Lawrenceville, New Jersey.

The Hawks won the meet with a score of 228 points. Quinnipiac University finished second with 158 points, followed closely by Rider who was third with 156.5 points. Manhattan placed in fourth with 109.5 points. Iona finished fifth with 72, and Marist placed sixth with 33 points. They were followed by Saint Peter’s with 32 points, Niagara in eighth place with 17 points, Siena in ninth place with 7 points and Canisius in tenth place with 6 points.       

Ellinor Persson of Manhattan University was named the Most Outstanding Performer for Field Events. Persson won both the triple jump and the long jump at the

Andrea Olsen of Monmouth University earned Most Outstanding Performer for Track Events. Olsen won the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 10:33.42, and also won in the 400 meter hurdles (4:33.50).

Joe Compagni of Monmouth University was named the 2016 Women’s Coach of the Year.

Tara Jameson of Iona College set a new MAAC Championship record on day two of the 2016 MAAC Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 16:30.65.
