No. 6 Rider University (5-9-3, 4-3-3 MAAC) defeated No. 11 Saint Peter’s University (3-13-1, 1-8-1 MAAC), 3-1, to advance to the 2017 MAAC Women’s Soccer quarterfinals. The Broncs take on No. 3 Quinnipiac University, on Sunday, October 28 at 11:00 a.m. on Field 18.
 
Rider Notes:
  • The Broncs outshot the Peacocks (24-8) and had a total of 11 shots on goals, while Saint Peter’s recorded one.
  • Sophomore midfield/forward Valeria Pascuet, tallied the game’s first goal in the 28th minute, and was assisted by junior forward/midfield Kourtney Cunningham. The goal was Pascuet’s first of the season, and the second of her career.
  • Senior forward Ellie Smith found the back of the net with the Broncs’ second goal of the in the 32nd minute, from 10 yards out. She was assisted by sophomore midfield Erica Ludwikowski. Smith’s score was her fourth of the season and the 19th of her career.
  • Rider’s third and final goal came off a header from junior back Meghan McCabe, assisted by senior back Emily Schmitt.
Saint Peter’s Notes:
  • Junior back Brooke Trotta found the back of the net in the 86th minute, and was assisted by sophomore back/midfield Alyssa Conanan. Trotta’s goal was her first of the season and third of her career.
  • The Peacocks and Broncs attempted three corners apiece.
  • Freshman goalkeeper Victoria Scarratt totaled eight saves in net.
  • The Peacocks finished the season (3-13-1, 1-8-1 MAAC).

No. 10 Iona College (3-13-3, 2-7-1 MAAC) advanced to the 2017 MAAC Women’s Soccer quarterfinals after defeating No. 7 Fairfield University (6-9-2, 4-5-1 MAAC), 5-4, in penalty kicks. Senior forward Marissa Bentley scored the fifth and final penalty kick to extend the Gaels’ season.

Iona Notes:
  • ­The Gaels take on No. 2 Manhattan College, on Sunday, October 29, at 11:15 a.m. from Field 17 on ESPN3.
  • All five Gaels scored in the shootout: Charlotte Stuart, Mariana Jaramillo, Kelsie Kearns, Julia Campagna, and Bentley.
  • Senior back Marissa Dundas scored her first goal of the season in the 80th minute to tie the game at one.
  • Senior goalkeeper Tiffany Martinez recorded three saves and stopped Fairfield’s freshman forward Alex Madden on the third penalty kick.
Fairfield Notes:
  • Madden tallied the game’s first goal in the 27th minute on a cross into the box from freshman Gabby Diodati. Madden finished her freshman campaign with seven goals (14 points).
  • The Stags registered seven shots, four on goal, and recorded three corners.
  • Senior goalkeeper Jenna Pike made four saves in net.

No. 8 Niagara University (7-8-3, 3-6-1 MAAC) advanced to the 2017 MAAC Women’s Soccer quarterfinals, defeating No. 9 Canisius College (7-8-3, 2-6-2 MAAC) in penalty kicks, 4-3. The Griffs and Purple Eagles were tied after two overtimes and needed penalty kicks to decide the MAAC Women’s Soccer Championship edition of the Battle of the Bridge.
 
Niagara Notes:
  • The Purple Eagles faces No. 1 Monmouth University in the MAAC Women’s Soccer quarterfinals, on Sunday, October 29, at 2:15 p.m. from Field 17 on ESPN3.
  • Four of the five shooters in the shootout found the back of the net for the Purple Eagles: Naomi Giovino, Bayley Sullivan, Kelsey Araujo, and Selena Mangoni.
  • Red-shirt sophomore goalkeeper Shania van Nuland made two saves and stopped a pair of shots in the shootout.
  • Niagara took a total of 14 shots as a team, six of which were on goal, and attempted four corners.
Canisius Notes:
  • Griffs’ sophomore goalkeeper Alana Rossi notched six saves.
  • As a team, Canisius registered six shots, two on goal, and three corners.
  • Three of the five shooters in the shootout tallied marks for the Griffs: Gretta Dry, Bailey Fenwick-Miller, and Madeline Beaulieu.

The 2017 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Women’s Soccer Championship takes place, October 28-November 1, and returns to the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex, in Lake Buena Vista, FL for the first time since 2013. Major award winners and All-MAAC First, Second, and Rookie teams are to be announced at the 2017 MAAC Women’s Soccer Awards Banquet on Monday, October 30, from the Indiana Jones attraction in Hollywood Studios.
