No. 1 Monmouth University (15-3-2, 9-1 MAAC) defeated No. 2 Manhattan College (10-7-3, 6-2-2 MAAC), 5-1, to claim its second-straight MAAC Women’s Soccer Championship. The Hawks won their third MAAC Women’s Soccer Championship and second in Disney.
Monmouth Notes:
- The Hawks are the first team to win consecutive MAAC Women’s Soccer Championships since former conference member Loyola (MD) won five-straight (2000-04).
- Since joining the league in 2013, Monmouth is (8-2) in MAAC Championship games. The eight wins are the most by a MAAC team over the span.
- Junior midfield Allie DeLuca scored the game’s first goal in the 38th minute and was assisted by sophomore midfield/forward Lexie Palladino. The goal was DeLuca’s second of the season and first since September 23, versus Canisius College.
- Monmouth tallied four goals in the second half prior to Manhattan’s first goal of the game in the 78 minute. Senior forward Rachelle Ross notched the Hawks’ second tally in the 51st minute, her sixth goal of the season. The senior was setup by DeLuca and res-shirt sophomore forward Madie Gibson.
- The Hawks scored three goals in a four-minute span in the second half, to increase their lead to 5-0. Junior forward Jazlyn Moya found the back of the net in the 69th minute, off an assist from sophomore forward Dana Scheriff. Sophomore midfield/back Jessica Johnson recorded her second goal of the season on a free-kick in the 71st minute. Gibson followed up with the Hawks’ fifth goal, just 0:46 seconds later.
- Gibson has scored a goal in four-straight games dating to October 21. Today’s score was the 19th of her career and fifth career goal in the MAAC Championship.
- Red-shirt senior back Allie Girardi was named the 2017 MAAC Women’s Soccer Championship Most Outstanding Player. Gibson, senior midfield Miranda Konstantinides, and Palladino were named to the All-Championship Team.
- Monmouth improved to (13-0) when scoring first in 2017 and reached the 15-win mark for the first time since 2013.
- The last three MAAC Champions have scored five goals in the Championship game (Monmouth, 2017, Monmouth, 2016, Siena, 2015).
- The Hawks earn the league’s automatic bid into the 2017 NCAA Women’s Soccer Championship. The selection show is set to air on Monday, November 6 at 4:30 p.m. (ET) on NCAA.com.

- The Jaspers played in their second MAAC Women’s Soccer Championship game and second in the last three years.
- Junior forward/midfield Annie Doerr tallied her fourth goal of the season in the 78th minute.
- Junior goalkeeper Kelly DiGregorio, senior forward Erica Modena, and sophomore forward Arianna Montefusco were named to the 2017 MAAC All-Championship Team.
- Manhattan reached the 10-win mark for the second time in the last three years, and fourth time in program history.
