No. 2 Rider University (12-4-2, 6-2-2 MAAC) defeated No. 3 Canisius College (12-4-4, 5-1-4 MAAC) to advance to the MAAC Men’s Soccer Championship game for the third year in a row. The Broncs become the first team to play in three-straight MAAC Men’s Soccer Championship finals since Monmouth University (2013-15).
Rider Notes:
- The Broncs scored three unanswered goals in the first half after Canisius took a 1-0 lead in the eighth minute.
- Sophomore back Sylvain Coco notched Rider’s first goal of the game, his third of the season in the 19th minute. Coco was assisted by red-shirt freshman forward Pablo DeCastro.
- DeCastro tallied the Broncs’ second goal, four minutes later in the 23rd minute. The forward registered his eighth goal of the season, the second-most on the team. Senior forward Elliott Otmani and sophomore back Arthur Herpreck assisted on the tally.
- Otmani found the back of the net in the 27th minute, he was assisted by DeCastro. Otmani’s goal was his ninth of the season, tied for the second-most in the MAAC.
- Senior goalkeeper David Pastuna stopped four shots in net.
- Rider recorded 17 shots, nine shots on goal, and five corners.
Canisius Notes:
- Freshman forward Filippo Tamburini scored the game’s first goal in the eighth minute. The score was his 11th of the season, the most in the league.
- Tonight’s semifinal appearance was the second-straight and fourth overall for Canisius.
- The Griffs tallied eight shots, five shots on goal, and five corners.

No. 1 Fairfield University (11-4-3, 7-1-2 MAAC) advanced to the 2017 MAAC Soccer Championship Game on penalty kicks, 3-2, over No. 5 Quinnipiac University. Freshman goalkeeper Gordon Botterill made five saves over 110 minutes and made three key stops in penalty kicks. Botterill was named to the All-MAAC Second Team and MAAC All-Rookie team. Fairfield competes in its first MAAC Men’s Soccer Championship Game since 2014.
Fairfield Notes:
- Fairfield’s three made penalty kicks came from Diego Casielles, Matt McGlinchey and Jonathan Uy
- Fairfield competed in its fourth double overtime game this season.
- The Stags are 5-1-2 at Lessing Field this season and now 4-0-1 in its last five contests
Quinnipiac Notes:
- Quinnipiac’s two made penalty kicks came from Conor McCoy and Oscar Evans
- Quinnipiac has competed in back-to-back MAAC Men’s Soccer Semifinals contests
- Goalkeeper Chrysostomos Iakovidis posted three saves in the net for the Bobcats
