WAGNER AND MARIST REMAIN NATIONALLY RANKED IN CWPA WOMEN’S POLL

EDISON, NJ - Wagner College and Marist College remain nationally ranked in the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Women’s Poll that was released on Wednesday, March 30. Wagner ranks 17th in the nation while Marist sits in the 24th spot.

Wagner was selected 20th in the CWPA Preseason Poll and have been nationally ranked for 11 consecutive weeks. The Seahawks have picked up wins against the No. 20 Harvard University, No. 18 University of California – San Diego, No. 14 San Jose State University, and No. 22 California State University – Bakersfield.

Wagner’s offense has been led by junior utility Kimberly Watson and sophomore attack Erica Hardy. Watson leads the conference with 64 goals, ranks third in points with 82, third in goals per game with 2.67, and fourth in points per game averaging 3.42. Hardy is the league leader in assists (40) and points (94), she is also tied for third in the conference in goals with 54. Senior goalkeeper Emily Riddle ranks second in the conference in goals-against average with 7.15 and in total saves with 141. The Seahawks currently sit in first place in the league with a record of (15-4, 6-0 MAAC).

Marist was not selected in the top 25 of the Preseason Poll, however they did receive votes. The Red Foxes did not break into the Top 25 until the second week of the season when they were tied for 24th. Since then, they have remained in the Top 25. The highest ranking the Red Foxes have earned was 23rd in weeks three through eight. For the past three weeks Marist has been ranked 24th in the nation. The Red Foxes earned an 11-10 double overtime win against #22 California State University – Bakersfield.

The Red Foxes have been led by senior utility Amanda Amorosa. The 2016-17 Preseason Player of the Year ranks fourth in the conference in points (72), sixth in the conference in goals (38), and second in assists (34). Marist is in third place in the conference with a mark of (12-11, 4-1 MAAC).
