2017 Men’s Basketball Semifinals

For the fifth consecutive season, Iona College will compete in the MAAC Men’s Basketball Championship Game. The Gaels defeated Saint Peter’s 73-65 in semifinals action. Jordan Washington scored a game-high 22 points on seven-of-12 shooting. Sam Cassell Jr. scored 12 points and Deyshonne Much added 11 points.

For Saint Peter’s, Quadir Welton & Trevis Wyche scored 18 points each for the Peacocks in the defeat. Saint Peter’s went 11-of-11 from the free-throw line. Saint Peter’s took a lead going into halftime but the Gaels came out of the locker room and went on a 10-0 run. Saint Peter’s finished the 2016-17 with 19 wins.

Iona will meet Siena in the championship game for the first time since 2000.

The 2017 MAAC Men’s Basketball Championship game takes place on Monday, March 6 at 9:00 p.m. and will air live on ESPN2 with the winner earning the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Championship.
