Siena Men & Quinnipiac Women Top Leaderboards After Day One of MAAC Golf Championships

LAKE BUENA VISTA, FL – Siena College men and Quinnipiac University women sit atop the leaderboards after the first round of the 2017 MAAC Men’s and Women’s Golf Championships. Action teed off this morning at 7:30 a.m. from Disney's Magnolia Golf Course in Lake Buena Vista, FL.
The 2016 MAAC Men’s Golf Champions, Siena College finished day one of play +21 with a score of 309. The number one seeded Saints had 11 birdies to lead all teams. Siena freshman Jake Holt (74) tallied four of the 11 birdies, finishing two-over-par. Holt is tied for first place with Saint Peter’s University freshman Ryan Rodriguez (74).
Monmouth University sits in second place with 312 points. There is a three-way tie for third with Rider University (313), Saint Peter’s (313), and Iona (313). Tied for sixth place is Manhattan College (315) and Fairfield University (315). Rounding out the opening round scores is Canisius College (320) and Niagara University (330).
Fairfield teammates Eric Austin (75) and Kevin Duncan (75) are tied for the three spot on the individual leaderboard, both finishing three-over-par on the day. The Stags birdie count landed at 10 in the first round, which was tied with Manhattan College for the second-most.
The defending MAAC Women Golf Champions, Quinnipiac are atop the women’s leaderboard with an opening round score of +32 (320). The Bobcats had five birdies, which was tied with Niagara and the Albany for the most in the first round.
Quinnipiac’s Julia Kemmling shot a 79 and is tied for third. The sophomore had one birdie en route to her first round total of 79. Alexandra Sazhin (80) and Estefania Morales (82) each finished the first round with two birdies for the Bobcats. Two-time MAAC Golfer of the Week, Luciana Tobia-Palza shot an 80 in the opening round of play.
Siena’s Kristen Bromley (78) shares the top spot on the individual leaderboard with Albany’s Paige Fujihara (78). Tied for third with Kemmling (79) are Monmouth’s Haley Goodling (79) and Erin DiDonato (79), Albany’s Megan Henry (79), and Hartford’s Cora Bernier (79).
The Hawks sit one stroke behind Quinnipiac with a day one score of 321, followed by Albany (324) in third. In fourth place is Siena (332), followed by Dayton University (336), and Hartford University (339). Niagara (340) finds itself just one stroke behind Hartford, Fairfield (349) and La Salle (419) round out the remainder of the leaderboard.
The second round of the 2017 MAAC Men’s and Women’s Golf Championships picks up tomorrow, Saturday, April 22, at 7:30 a.m. The men will tee off from the 10th hole, while the women will tee off from the first hole.
