LAKE BUENA VISTA, FL – Saint Peter’s University Men’s Golf team climbed up one spot on the leaderboard to claim the 2017 MAAC Men’s Golf Championship at Disney’s Magnolia Golf Course in Lake Buena Vista, FL.

The Peacocks entered the final round seven-strokes behind Siena College. This is Saint Peter’s third MAAC Men’s Golf Championship in program history, they have won all three within the last four years.

Peacocks’ sophomore Mike Winter entered the final round tied for third place just four-strokes behind the men’s individual leader, Siena’s Jake Holt after day two. Winter shot a 71 (-1) on the day and finished the championship with an overall score of 220. He recorded six birdies this afternoon, finishing the tournament with a championship-high of 12. Teammate freshman Ryan Rodriguez recorded a final round score of 73 (+1) and overall score of 224, which was good for fourth place overall.

Siena’s Holt finished in second place just one stroke behind the top finisher with a final score of 221. Holt was named the 2017 Men’s Rookie of the Year. With only one stroke behind second place, Canisius College freshman David Hanes finished the tournament with an overall score of 222.

The Saints finished in second place three-strokes behind Saint Peter’s, with 913 points, followed by Manhattan College (918). Rider University and Monmouth University finished tied for fourth totaling 920 points. Iona College finished in sixth place (931), Fairfield University in seventh (934), Canisius College in eighth (936) and Niagara University finished in ninth place (941).

The Peacocks went ahead by one-stroke going into the 18th hole over Siena. The 2017 McLeod Trophy recipient and Most Outstanding Men’s Golfer, Mike Winter, finished hole 18 with five strokes securing the top spot on the men’s individual leaderboard.

First-year head coach and former standout performer for the Peacocks, Nick Dilio, was named the 2017 Men’s Coach of the Year.

Saint Peter’s will receive an automatic bid to the 2017 NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championship. The 2017 NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championship selection show will be televised on the Golf Channel, Thursday, May 4, 2017 at 12:00 p.m.
