Marist College Advances to 2017 MAAC Water Polo Championship Final

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – The No. 2 seeded Marist College Red Foxes has defeated the No. 3 seeded Virginia Military Institute Keydets to advance to the 2017 MAAC Water Polo Championship. This marks the Red Foxes' third consecutive trip to the MAAC Water Polo Championship game.
Marist takes on the No. 1 seeded Wagner College, tomorrow, April, 30th at 2:00 p.m. This will be the fourth consecutive MAAC Water Polo Championship Final meeting between Marist and Wagner.
Freshman Emma Noble and junior Shelby Barkley put VMI out in front with two goals early in the first quarter. In the first minute of the second quarter, Katie Tijerina scored to put the Foxes on the board. Marist senior Amanda Amorosa scored her first of three goals to tie the game at 2-2 midway through the second quarter. A goal by Marist freshman Justine Castro with 2:36 left in the first half sparked a 9-5 run that would last throughout the remainder of the contest.
During that span, Marist's Nastassia McGlothlin scored one goal and added five assists, and was the games highest pointer getter with a total of six. The Red Foxes also saw goals from Amanda Amorosa, who registered her ninth hat-trick of the season. Grace Doerfler, Jocelyn McQuade, Susan Cantoni, and Carolyn Gauvin each scored one goal, while Justine Castro added two goals.
Barkley notched her 17th hat-trick of the season for VMI, Noble tallied two goals, Cecilya Lundy and Bailey Huddleston each added a goal and an assist on the day.
Marist goalie Jessica Hermosillo made 13 saves, which tied her game-high for the season. Hermosillo posted a .650 save percentage on the day.
