No.1 Monmouth and No. 2 Marist to Meet in 2017 MAAC Men's Tennis Championship Final

WEST WINDSOR, NJ – With a 4-0 win over fourth seeded Fairfield University, Monmouth University will compete in its third-straight MAAC Men's Tennis Championship final. The Hawks are the defending champions and will take on second seeded Marist College at 2pm. The Hawks and the Red Foxes are the last two teams to take home the crown. Tomorrow, one team looks to win its second championship in the last three years.
The Hawks clinched the doubles point when the All-MAAC First Team duo of Filipek/Gomez defeated Fairfield's duo of Orban/Caputo at number one doubles by a score of 7-5. At number two doubles, the Hawks All-MAAC First Team duo of Pipoli/Giuffrida defeated the Stags duo of Rodgers/Ammon 6-2. Monmouth claimed the overall victory when Gomez, Martinez and Giuffrida won their singles matchups at the three, sixth and fifth spots, respectively.
The Red Foxes find themselves in the championship final after defeating third seeded Quinnipiac University 4-0 in the second semifinals matchup of the championship. The Red Foxes took the doubles point when unanimous 2017 MAAC Men's Tennis Player of the Year, Javier Restrepo, and Gianlucca Massa defeated Axel Stern and Austin Yannone 6-1 at second doubles. Rudolf Kurz and 2017 MAAC Rookie of the Year Chris Gladden defeated Kei Ezaka and Kyle Alper. Kurz claimed a 6-0, 6-1 victory at number two singles. Justin Chanthalangsy and Dylan Fletcher sealed the win for Marist with wins at number four and number five singles, respectively.
Match time for Monmouth and Marist is set for 2pm.
